The History of Cuneo Cottage
_____________________________
The Cuneo cottage was built around 1885. Sylvia Scarafoni
Sebastiani (my mother) lived in the rental home with her parents,
Joseph and Pierina Scarafoni, and 2 sisters, Rose, and Dolly
(Violet), when they first moved to Sonoma in 1927. Coincidentally,
the home was located directly across the street from August
Sebastiani's family home, which is how Sylvia and August happened
to meet, she was 13 and he was 16. The Scarafonis lived in
the home for about 3 years before moving into the Dairy Ranch
home which they had purchased in Schellville.
The home was later purchased by August Sebastiani (sometime
in the sixties). It was sold to his son Sam Sebastiani in
the seventies. Later, Sam Sebastiani sold the home to Sebastiani
Vineyards Inc. Richard Cuneo and Mary Ann Sebastiani Cuneo
purchased the "Cuneo Cottage" from Sebastiani Vineyards
Inc. in 1998. At that time, they furnished the house and decided
to make it available for out of town family, friends, and
vacationing guests.
After her husband died, and after selling her ranch home in
Schellville, Rose Scarafoni Millerick returned to her old
home, (now known as the "Cuneo Cotttage,") to live
for a 6 month period in 1998. She lived there to oversee the
building her new home on Lucca court, 2 blocks from the cottage
where she lived when she came to Sonoma in 1927.
The Cuneo Cottage has a beautiful back yard shaded by a large
Oak. The front yard faces a "landscape enhancement park"
owned by Sebastiani Vineyards. The original "Mission
Vineyard," established in 1825 by the Misssion Fathers
is viewable from the front porch. The Mission Vineyard is
approximately a 1 block walk from the cottage. Two blocks
away is the Signature Vineyard for Sebastiani Vineyards, "Cherryblock."
